    This update fixes a number of issues found within 20.0.

    Bug Fixes

    • Resolved a crash that could occur when selling Etienne after a level up
    • Resolved a crash from selling Etienne with Drone Swarm active then immediately placing him again
    • Resolved an issue where placing then selling and placing Etienne again would not display his Drone Swarm in the ability bar
    • Loading a save on Mesa after removing 1 rock should now correctly load that they are removed
    • Resolved some Placement issues on Mesa
    • Resolved an issue causing Odyssey progress to become stuck after using certain powers
    • Resolved issues with Robo Monkey's left arm not acquiring the correct targets
    • Resolved some multipliers adding together incorrectly for Bloontrap's Cash generation
    • Resolved an issue with the Mauling MOABs skin not cycling through damage states
    • Resolved some crashes related to loading specific save games from 19.2
    • Resolved an issue where the Banana Farmers removing corn on Cornfield would scale to random sizes
    • Resolved an issue causing Admiral Brickell to have no highlight outline when selected

      This comprehensive guide is meant to give an overview on the optimal ways to properly use Sentry Paragon, the 5xx Engi. Sentry Paragon was a contender for weakest fifth tier upon release but has since gotten a steady stream of small yet impactful buffs. At its current state, it can be compared to Archmage since both are plasma type and are around the same price point. Paragon is stronger against ceramics while accepting non-Alch buffs better while Archmage has a much stronger stepping stone in Arcane Spike. "Much stronger" is no exaggeration; the best way to use Sentry Paragon is to ignore the existence of Sentry Expert entirely. I personally believe that Sentry Expert is the single weakest fourth tier in the game despite having its effectiveness more than doubled since release.

    Sub-towers

    Sentry Paragon's entire identity revolves around the production of sub-towers. Sub-towers are a special class of entities with a lot of historical baggage, mostly due to Comanche Commander. In their current state, they're divided into two types: placed and nonplaced. The distinguishing factor is whether or not the sub-tower can be selected and viewed.

    Placed sub-towers are the following:

    • Marine from x5x Heli
    • Mini Sun Avatars and Spectres from 4+xx Super with magic sacrifice
    • Sentries from 1+xx Engi

    Nonplaced sub-towers are the following:

    • Mini Aces from 5xx Bucc
    • Mini Helis from xx4+ Heli
    • Both tiers of skybirds from x4+x Wizard
    • Drones (special exception, see below) and the UCAV from Etienne
    • Ball of Light from Adora

    In update 12.0, sub-towers received a fundamental change to their behavior to accommodate for the introduction of Overclock. In particular, Alch and Overclock buffs given to the main tower are no longer transferred to the sub-tower, but other buffs are (e.g. Village, hero buffs). Placed sub-towers can be Overclocked and also receive buffs from non-Alch sources if in range if the main tower does not already have the same buff. Nonplaced towers for the most part (notwithstanding bugs) have no initial source that can receive buffs and thus can only be buffed via the main tower.

    Etienne's drones seem to be a special exception; they do benefit from Overclock but cannot be selected. It's unknown if this is a bug or a special exception granted to Etienne given that the UCAV cannot be Overclocked.

    Balancing History

      • 2xx deploys sentries every 6s instead of 7s
      • Paragon sentry range increased from 45 to 50
      • Paragon sentry explosion range scales with sentry range
      • Paragon sentry explosions no longer trigger twice between a short delay

    Setup

      • Sub 000 -> 202 -> one discount Village -> 203
      • Gwen after Airburst
      • Alch to buff Sub initially, then main buff Sun Avatar later with Paragon as its secondary target
      • Double discount Villages, 202 + 022 early, then 302 later
      • Super after one discount Village for r40 along with 203 Sub and 400 Alch -> 301
      • 501 Paragon
      • 420 Bomb
      • 040 Engi
      • 023 Glue on strong
      • 2x 024 Presses on strong
      • 040 Ninja for r95 and r99
      • 004 Mortar
      • 140 Spact + 040 Sub for r100

    Heroes

    • Gwen
      • Gwen offers the most consistent buff to both the Paragons and the Sun Avatar. Because Paragons have just 2 damage 5 pierce, Gwen's +1 pierce and damage buff with high uptime affects them significantly. Her mid-game is decent as well, and later in the game the power of her additional DDT damage buff completely shuts down r95 and r99.
    • Pat
      • Pat's buff is stronger than Gwen's, but is much less consistent. One advantage that he has over her is his enormous amount of control with his main attack. Since both Paragon and Sun Avatar have relatively low but consistent DPS, Pat acts as a pseudo-MOAB Glue/Press on the densest rounds. He helps counter r100 better than Gwen since pierce no longer matters against the BAD.

    Early-game (r6-40)

    Early-game should be beaten with the standard set of towers; namely Sub on good water maps and Ninja elsewhere. Dart + Sub can start most water maps while three Darts should typically be used to reach Ninja. Upgrade this tower until it's safe to save up for Gwen/Pat (this usually means Airburst on Sub and 201 for Ninja), then keep upgrading to Triple Guns or Bloonjitsu with Alch buff. r40 is trivial with a 400 Alch on both your early-game tower and a base Super to add massive DPS.

    Mid-game (r41-80)

    The only difficult part of mid-game is saving up for Sun Avatar. Gwen is actually weaker than Pat in this case since Pat reliably controls MOABs while Gwen has to rely on her random cocktail to contribute. Nevertheless, 201 Super with double discount Villages and a 400 Alch is always more than enough to reach Sun Avatar sometime before r60 if done correctly. From there, it's best to take precautions against ceramic rounds by using your abilities and building the Sentry Expert early for the sake of the cold sentries. Paragon should be afforded before the end of mid-game.

    Late-game (r81-100)

    Late-game with Paragon is really all about choosing the correct support towers. Since Paragon costs just below $40k, Overclock is a great choice to add a big boost in DPS. The Sun Avatar transitions to more of a support role to control the map, meaning that using Overclock on it or even buying another one is typically not a good idea.

    The support towers you should choose are the usual suspects, along with a fun, extremely off-meta pick:

    • MOAB Glue (023 Glue)
      • A staple in almost all strats without massive DPS. Cheap and highly effective against both ZOMGs and DDTs when set on strong.
    • MOAB Press (024 Boomer)
      • MOAB Press's ridiculously powerful control against ZOMGs is critical when your defense lacks high DPS and the track is short. Should always be run with MOAB Glue to get its full value, and even doubled up to fully stunlock ZOMGs. Set on strong.
    • Shattering Shells (004 Mortar)
      • Another staple of low-DPS strats, especially those that struggle against fortified super ceramics (which both Paragon and Sun Avatar do). Nullifies the danger of r98 and 96, along with r97 which can sometimes be problematic.
    • Bloon Impact (420 Bomb)
      • When the stalling power and infinite range of Downdraft isn't needed, Impact acts as the most effective control counter to super ceramics in the game. The lack of micro needed and its good synergy with Sun Avatar's knockback, along with benefiting from Primary Training (which should be bought with Glue and Press), make it a top-tier choice for Paragon.
    • Bloon Sabotage (040 Ninja)
      • The single best DDT counter in the game. While not technically needed when Gwen is brought, it's an incredibly potent safety net and can even be used to help slow down dense rounds.
    • First Strike + Spike Storm (040 + 140)
      • With Gwen, Paragon and Sun Avatar struggle with BAD DPS along with the ZOMG children. Spike Storm does incredible point damage while First Strike, when timed well, removes the children entirely. Extra money should be spent on Alch buffing the Spike Storm for even more damage.
    • Call to Arms (042)
      • In terms of CHIMPS, Paragon is essentially one of two strats where Call to Arms is even marginally effective (the other being Sub Commander). This is due to Paragon having a special interaction with Call to Arms's attack speed increase; since both the Paragon sentries and the main Engi are affected by Call to Arms, its effect double-dips by spawning 50% more sentries and providing +50% attack speed to every sentry. Interestingly, the only other tower with this attribute is the Temple via its mini Sun Avatar spawns.
